It was OK. The key argument/assay here-- that black/darkness/mortificatio is not just something we are supposed to Get Through/Piece of work Through/Overcome, but an e'er-present and indispensable part of life and growth and a kind of illumination itself-- this is good and important, very, yep. But I somewhat suspect that anyone with a desire to read this book has probably done another reading on alchemy and psychology, correct? And while it's neat how many different sources Marlan brings int It was OK. The central argument/analysis here-- that black/darkness/mortificatio is non simply something we are supposed to Get Through/Work Through/Overcome, but an always-present and indispensable part of life and growth and a kind of illumination itself-- this is skillful and of import, very, yes. But I somewhat suspect that anyone with a desire to read this book has probably done some other reading on alchemy and psychology, right? And while information technology's swell how many different sources Marlan brings into the mix hither, he never actually introduces any big, original images or insight that y'all wouldn't have encountered already, especially if you've read some Hillman. If yous're a fiction writer just looking to delve into the significance of the Black Lord's day every bit an archetypal symbol, in that location'due south some stuff in hither for you, merely it'south pretty squarely aimed at practicing analysts and academics and probably ain't going to Blow Your Mind.

However, I volition never sell this book. There's xv color pages and one of them has this moving-picture show from an old alchemical treatise that is likewise beautiful to function with. It's the green lion eating the sun. I most definitely want that pic in a handy identify from now on.

I loved this book. Information technology offers a perspective on the alchemy of dark emotions that is incredibly unique, and at the same time draws from different writers and cultures to drive the points dwelling. I especially loved the fact that unlike many other books, the author doesn't push button some arcadian notion of finding some sort of "low-cal" at the end of the tunnel; simply rather lays out the process for the proper integration of the darkness into the personality of the person undergoing the process, and too talk I loved this book. Information technology offers a perspective on the abracadabra of nighttime emotions that is incredibly unique, and at the same time draws from dissimilar writers and cultures to drive the points home. I especially loved the fact that unlike many other books, the writer doesn't button some idealized notion of finding some sort of "lite" at the end of the tunnel; but rather lays out the procedure for the proper integration of the darkness into the personality of the person undergoing the process, and also talks about the toll of improper or premature integration of opposing/ paradoxical forces. I constitute this book so interesting and a very thorough discussion of the symbol of the black sun within Jungian Psychology. The volume explores how darkness within the private can be experienced every bit consuming or result in rebirth, growth and healing.
For me personally, I institute it catchy to continue upward with in places due to the circuitous ideas information technology was putting beyond. Which of course is non an result with the volume! Just it might exist a book for people with more groundwork reading in this surface area, or perhaps like I institute this book then interesting and a very thorough discussion of the symbol of the black sun within Jungian Psychology. The book explores how darkness within the individual tin can be experienced as consuming or result in rebirth, growth and healing.
For me personally, I found it tricky to keep up with in places due to the complex ideas it was putting across. Which of course is non an issue with the book! Only it might be a book for people with more background reading in this expanse, or perhaps like me, information technology'll be one that's read a few times to mine out all of the wonderful ideas it holds. ...more

The book is a grim piece of poetry reflecting on the inexistence of the psychological Cocky (seen equally undefinae concioisness) without the shining light of darkness

I adore Jung and will continue to inquiry the Black Sun...
